Tourist Attractions

Kodaikanal is a hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, the town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest. Rowing boats can be hired, and hikers and cyclists follow the 5 km Lake Road path around the shore.

KODAI LAKE
One of the main attractions for the tourists of Kodaikanal is the Kodai lake which is at a distance of 1 km from the bus stand.The lake is spread over 60 acres and surrounded by fine tarred road of 5 kms length. The boat club provides boats for hire. There are luxury boats also.

Boat ride are available generally for 30 minute cruises, depending on the type of boat ( Single / Double Pedal / Row ).

UPPER LAKE VIEW
Upper Lake View is 3.2 Km from Coaker's Walk on the way to Green Valley View and provides a magnificent view of the KodaikanalLake.This place can be visited during day to have glimpse of star shaped lake. During evening this place is completely deserted. This point is near to Solar Observatory.

SOLAR OBSERVATORY
This oldest world famous institution was built in 1898. It is nearly 3kms from the bus stand and situated at the highest point in Kodai hills at 7700 ft. It has a well equipped productive laboratory doing quality research work. Its director Evershed discovered the phenomenon of radial motion in Sunspots - known as Evershed effect.

PINE FOREST
 
On the way to Guna Cave at two place we can see this Pine Forest Plantation. There are two places where people stop to see this plantation. First place we hardly see anyone and second one is crowded by people and taking pictures at this place will be difficult.

MOIER POINT

Moier Point provides a lovely view of the valley. It is just 3 kms before the Pillar rocks , on the way to Pillar Rocks from Pine Forest.

GUNA CAVE / DEVIL'S KITCHEN
Guna Caves is the local name for Devil’s Kitchen, a deep bat-infested chamber between three naturally arranged imposing boulders (Pillar Rocks). Initially it was known as Devil's Kitchen and once Kamal Hassan shot his movie called "Guna" here in this cave its now better known as Guna Cave.

PILLAR ROCK
Three granite boulders each vertically measuring a height of 400 feet stand shoulder to shoulder. It is located 8Kms from the lake and one the best panoramic view of valley can be enjoyed from this place.
Fog plays its roll here.At the entrance to this place you will find lot of shops as like other places in Kadaikanal.
This place is on the way from Green Valley point. The route followsGreen Valley view--Pillar Rocks--Guna Caves.

GREEN VALLEY / SUICIDE POINT
It is located a little over 5 kms from kodaikanal lake and close to the golf club from here,you can get a magnificent view of the vaigai dam below.
This place we can have best view of Kodaikanal Valley, scenic beauty for this place is just awesome.It’s also known as "Suicide Point" as depth of valley from this place is around 5000 ft.

GOLF CLUB
Kodaikanal Golf Club is a private membership club with an 18 hole, par 71 Golf course. It is located about 5 kilometres from the center of Kodaikanal The club is on Golf links Road near the popular view point 'Suicide Point' (Green Valley View) and 3 kilometres  before the 'Pillar Rocks' viewpoint and flower garden.

FAIRY FALLS

Fairy Falls are located in Pambarpuram area in Kodaikanal. Fairy Waterfalls are very beautiful and it is located along with a small dam in very secluded area full of trees

Telescope House at Coarker's Walk
Do not expect anything great about this place. This Telescope House provided with Three Telescope to have panoramic view of Kodaikanal city.


1) Dolphine Nose 
2) One of the school's playground where during morning we were able to see students playing in playground.
3) One of the Cathedral of Kodaikanal.

COAKERS WALK
It is a narrow pedestrian path, constructed by Lt. Coaker in 1872, a one kilometer mountain road which runs along the edge of steep slopes on the southern side of Kodai road which is 1/2km away from Kodai.  On a cloudless, clear day one can have interesting sights, such as.... Dolphin's nose in south, valley of the pambar river in South East, birds eye view of Periyakulam and even city of Madurai.

LA SALETH CHURCH​

This is the first Roman Catholic Church in Kodaikanal and built in 1866. And this Cathedral painted in Blue and White from the time it built. Festival for this church is during August and people from all over the world.

PAMBAR FALLS​

"Grand cascade" is another name for this magnificent falls. It can be reached by a steep, precipitous path behind Pambar house. Racing down PambarRaivine is Zig-zaggingleving stream that cascades over a series of rock formations. It is 4kms away from Kodaikanal.

DOLPHIN NOSE​
To reach Dolphins nose at a distance of 8 kms from the bus stand, one has to follow the route specified here.There is an old road after crossing Pambar Bridge near towards Berijam Lake. A rough curve rounds the hillside which leads to a point where a flat rock projects over an awful chesm of 6600 feet deep. This is Dolphins nose. On the way, beautiful views of plains and steepy rocky eascarpeints called rolling hills can be seen.

KURINJI ANDAVAR TEMPLE​

This temple is near to chettiar park and 3 kms from lake. This temple is of Lord Murugan. This temple's name is associated with Kurinji flower and Kurinji means 'hill region' and Andavar means 'God' and thatswhe Lord Murugan is referred as 'God of hill'. This temple was built in 1936 by an European Lady and it is the largest temple in Kodaikanal.

BRYANT PARK​
Bryant’s Park which is located very close to Lake and Tibetian’s market and a distance of 1 km from the bus stand.The practical utility of this park is, in every May a horticultural show is conducted by the department of Horticulture. On that occasion enormous flowers from neighbouring villages compete for the prizes, which draws big crowd. They exhibit flowers and other products.

One of the biggest TV tower is located in Kodaikanal. It's very nearby La Saleth Church and Coakers Walk.

VATTAKANAL FALLS​

This Falls known as Vattakanal and its on the way to place called Dolphin Nose. Visiting any falls in Kodaikanal will be great only during Monsoon season and around December.
We can see this place from far as stream of this falls is covered with fence but at one place its cut open so if water is not flowing that time we can go down and take this picture.

BEAR CHOLA FALLS​
An ideal picnic spot 1.6 km from bus stand and within 2 Kms off the lake, where once bears came to drink water. Hence the name of the falls became Bear Shola falls. Cross the lake bund, pass the Telephone exchange on your right, and at the junction take the lower road there comes Clifton Hotel. The approach is rugged hill path. The falls are at the best in rainy season.

CHETTIYAR PARK​

Chettiarpark, managed by the township, is on the way to the Kurunji Temple. It is 3.2 kms from the Bus Stand. Unlike other areas this park is very quite, and those who love calm timepassing can prefer this park.

Poombarai is a village located in the heart of the Palani Hills of Tamilnadu and 18 kilometers from Kodaikanal. Poombarai is famous for Sri Kuzhanthai Velleper Temple.

This place provides a panoramic landscape view of Berijam Lake. This viewpoint is 19 kms from Kodaikanal Lake. If we want to go there, we need proper permission letter from Kodaikanal Forest Office.

SHENBAGANUR MUSEUM
This museum is Maintained by the Sacred Heart College – Theological Seminary founded in 1895.
It is devoted to archaeological remains and the flora and fauna of the hills. One of the best orchidoriums in the country with more that 300 species of orchids is also housed here. It is about 5.6 Kms from the lake. A Spanish Father Ugarthe, contributed his major collections to the Museum.

SILVER CASCADE / SILVER FALLS​

 This water fall is located on the main ghat road, 8 kms away as one approachesKodai from Kodai Road. Overflow of Kodailake takes 180 ft leap over a steep cliff, to crash into a pool beside the ghat Road.

RAT TAIL FALLS​

This is also called as Rat tail falls.The widest falls, ranging from 13th kilometer on the ghat road to kodai.It is one of the highest falls in India, with their 975ft sheer drop.
